It's unlikely you have heard of Ilha da Gigoia, let alone been there. Unquestionably not a legendary spot like Ipanema or Copacabana and it's not a very significant island. A short walk will cover the complete location and it should be observed that there are no roads or cars. Being such a quiet and relaxed environment makes for terrific accommodations. If you're searching for a different vacation escape than staying at hotels, it may also shock you that Gigoia is in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, but yet still, most people have never heard of it, much less have they looked for apartments there.

Being amongst the biggest of islands in Lagoa da Tijuca, which lies at the northern end of Barra de Tijuca, close to Barra Point Shopping. Hidden away, this particular piece of real estate is a one of the concealed treasures of Rio de Janeiro, though still reasonably close to places like Copacabana and Ipanema. Cars are not a necessity here and there are boats that carry everyone to and from the island. The boats run 24 hours, 7 days a week. It won't take you long to get to know the ferryman and nearby occupants of the island.

With somewhere in the community of 2000 people residing on the island, it most certainly has a feeling of community and without a doubt it will be an interesting place to travel to. In addition to flats and apartments, the island features local bars and dining establishments. Though you won't find any hotels and it's not an intense night life, it definitely has its charms and rentals are attainable. In addition to this you can also find numerous services including internet, laundry, a small drug store, as well as a local grocery store on the island, which can be convenient.

One of the tricks though is actually discovering apartments, flats or any kind of rentals on Ilha da Gigoia. This is where it becomes critical to know people. Being one of those "off the beaten path" kind of places, finding accommodations on this fantastic little island paradise isn't as easy as surfing the internet or opening a newspaper. In this case, it really becomes necessary to get out there and interact with people. If you're researching for a place to live on the island, that little hole in the wall bar situated near the "main street" has now become your portal to the community. Just ask around, sooner or later you interact with someone who knows someone who can point you in the right direction.

With some luck, you will soon find yourself in your brand new peaceful island home. Away from the demanding city life, sounds of traffic and common nuisances. The perfect environment for anyone who is searching for a little peace and quiet and a distinct way of life. Not your common holiday in hotels. So sit back, relax and enjoy the appeal that this little island life has to offer. Enjoy Rio de Janeiro in a unique light.
