If you are looking to rent or buy a new home, one of the things you should take into account is its accessibility to public transportation. If you don't own a car, riding a bus or train may be the only way you can get from one place to another. Thus, having a house that is located near a bus stop, subway or rapid transit will make it easier for you to get around especially during the day.

The amount of public transportation in a given area is a great indicator of the growth and health of that community. If one lives in a major city, there should be several access points to public transportation around your home.

If you have children, or plan on having them, there are other benefits to nearby public transportation. A child that is not of driving age can get to and from places like school, extracurricular activities, jobs, and friends' homes without having you chauffeur them around. This can be a wonderful plus to having public transportation close by.

So, having a great safe and reliable public transportation system in the area you are planning to move in is essential in these cases. But even though you don't necessarily need buses for your children, it is still comforting to know whenever you have a flat tire you have something you can rely on.

Moreover, buses save you some serious cash on gas, car insurance, maintenance and other such things. Plus, you can even sleep or read while riding the bus, which is impossible when driving.

Another huge advantage of great public transportation nearby is its ecological side. You will definitely be very pleased to know that you are a responsible citizen who not only protects the environment, but also reduces his or her stress levels.

Taking the train especially cuts down travel time in half. After all, trains do not have to go through stop lights so you get to your destination faster. You can sit back, relax and not worry about inconsiderate drivers.

So as you can see, knowing the state of public transportation in an area you consider moving in is a great decision-making factor. Don't ignore it when you buy or rent your home.
