Other disasters can be prevented such as fire, with careful precautions, fire can be averted but none is more dangerous than flash floods all because you are not able to predict when it will happen and where it will happen. A lot of people have fallen victim to flash flood that rose up high above the roof. Here are some of the rules to follow for you to be prepared when floods happen.

Find out how often your place gets flooded when the rainwater reaches critical levels. If your places get flooded often, then you might have to contemplate moving from your neighborhood and seek a higher ground that you can handle. This might not be a bad idea to take care of sooner rather than later.

Each and every city has their own warning system that tells its residents that an incoming disaster is about to happen. You need to know how to protocol works and what you can do when it happens. Inform your family about what you have learned too.

Always have an ample amount of supplies stored within your reach in case flood happens so that you are always prepared no matter what happens. Store food, water, and enough supplies for you to last a couple of days to a week. Such food should require less cooking and refrigeration as electricity might be interrupted.

Have a rechargeable radio with you in case flood is currently happening or you are expecting it to happen and listen for instructions from the government for evacuation or not. They will also be giving you routes that will lead you to higher ground or where safety is.

If you want to save your household properties, move them on higher levels same as your livestock or any other valuable living things. They are more likely to be safe from being wet if you store them above at the second floor of your home rather than leave them there. But if the situation is dire, get yourself to safety first before anything else. In the end, your life is indeed more important than animals.

After the flood, do not re-enter your shelter using lanterns and torches as volatile materials might be inside and it might cause unnecessary dangers for you. Be cautious in using flammable materials.

Report broken utility lines so that they will be fixed once the flood lowers and is under control. Never try to fix them yourself for your convenience as you might create another set of danger for you and your family. That is something that you do not even want to deal with, and you could very well end up being worse off than before if you make a mistake.
